We have big news for what’s ahead…
It was 5am on a Saturday morning. We were getting up to get ready for a full morning of baseball games with three of our boys. But instead of feeling excited about watching them play a game they love or enjoying the flexibility we have as business owners to watch our kids play on a weekend, we were stressed out of our minds. It was also wedding season. Meaning that on top of three games in three locations, we also had a wedding day scheduled to start during one of those games. We felt like we were constantly missing details about the wedding and letting our clients down, but also not being the parents we wanted to for our kids by skipping out on what was important to them.
Over the years, our wedding business has seemed to thrive, but we have felt like we were not. About a year ago, we began having conversations about the sustainability of running a business that required us to work most weekends every fall, winter, and spring. As our kids have gotten older, weekends have become more and more precious for our family. And missing these days has seemed like more and more of a compromise of our values. So, we found ourselves at a crossroads. When we realized that this business that we’d spent years building no longer aligned with our family’s needs, we had to rethink our business.
Our big decision…
This is one of the most difficult blog posts we’ve ever written. But we are officially announcing that booking weddings will no longer be the focus of our business. We will still take the occasional wedding, and we still have a handful left to capture over the net several months. But, over the coming weeks, you will begin to see a significant shift around here.
This may come as a surprise to many of you. Please be assured that we have agonized over this decision for more than a year. We have prayed, discussed, argued, and sought council repeatedly in order to make the decision that we believe is right for our family. And we are not only at peace with our decision, but look to the future with excitement and anticipation.
Our sincere thanks…
To our current brides & grooms: Please do not worry. We’ve got you! We have a few brides and grooms that we are still serving, and we intend to make your wedding memories last forever. Thank you for trusting us. We’re not going anywhere, we promise!
To our past brides & grooms: We have been so blessed by you. Please know that you have been the greatest blessing from this business and we could not have imagined the richness you have brought to our lives. Telling stories gives us so much joy, and telling your stories has been a bigger gift than we ever knew possible. We truly care about you, your marriage, and your future. We are so grateful to have been a small part of your lives!
To our industry friends: Something we did not anticipate was the deep, meaningful, and lasting friendships we would build with other industry professionals. Such a gift that has been to our business, and to our hearts. Many of you will remain our friends for years to come, and that is irreplaceable. Being a small business owner can be so lonely and isolating, but you have brought so much joy and companionship to our lives, and for that we are so grateful.
To our friends & family: You have watched our kids (even when they were sick), showed up with meals during stressful weeks, supported us in times of dire need, been shoulders to cry on, cheered us on in victories, and have just loved us through thick and thin. This business and this family could not have made it without you. From the bottom of everything we are: thank you.
What’s next for us…
What’s Next for Dan & Erin PhotoCinema: We’re not closing our doors! We are just in a period of transition. Sometimes that can be scary. And it is, a little bit. But really, we are excited for what is coming. We are shifting our business to cater to small business owners. We will be creating content for businesses that sell products and services. We have big plans in the works, and we can’t wait to share them with you! So, look for some big changes over the next several weeks. A website facelift, a shift on our social media, and just an overall reboot. We are so excited for what is to come, and hope you will join in the fun!
Thank you for reading this far, for being here, and for supporting us. We are confident that this is the right move for our family. And while it isn’t easy, we definitely have peace in our souls, which we haven’t had for awhile. And that peace, is a really great feeling.
